The process of formation of natural pearls is the real miracle - ingestion of oysters of any foreign object such as grain of sand, fragment of shell or a piece of fish bone, oyster surrounds the foreign object with countless layers of nacre. The result is a pearl, which is the Foundation of great and precious jewelry.

The beauty of natural pearls since ancient times attracted people who used it in various jewelry. In the past natural saltwater pearls are extracted of the divers (AMA). Their work was dangerous and they were often lost at sea. It was believed that the person will never be able to create a pearl. However, in 1893, an old dream of mankind came true when Kokichi Mikimoto was first able to create cultured pearls.

Now all the pearls both marine and freshwater is produced in special pearl farms. Such farms use only quiet water of bays and lakes with a mild climate, and the water temperature is most stable (From 13-25). Only in such circumstances, clams and oysters are developing healthy. Too low or too high water temperatures slow the growth of shellfish, and can even destroy them.

The process of production of cultured pearls is extremely complex and subtle, takes an average of three to twelve years and includes four main steps:

  1. The first phase of selected oysters suitable for pearl production. From a huge number of oysters are selected only healthy and well-developed oysters, the growth and condition of which is constantly monitored by experts.
  2. When oysters reach 2 years of age, comes the most crucial stage where professionals produce operation: in the body of the mollusk is found a foreign body. This operation lasts no more than 1 minute. If the process extend a little longer, the mollusk can die. Irritation caused by foreign object, promotes the secretion of the mollusc special substance called nacre. Mother-of-pearl layer by layer envelops the foreign body and forms a pearl.
  3. After the operation the shell is placed in a container of water, where she rests her again and then lowered into the sea. A month later, the farm workers and check how many oysters survived. Approximately one-third of all oysters, as a rule, dies. But this does not mean that the surviving mollusks will produce a full pearl. Only a small part of them produces pearls of jeweler's quality.
